Everyone has a unique reason for reaching out to a personal trainer. And, in turn, I have a unique and personal approach with each one of my clients. The goals we set are customized to the client because there’s no other way to be successful with personal training than to make the goals achievable.
I want to tell you about Hala. I met Hala last year. Her daughters were recently married and her son was attending university. Her husband had recently had a health scare.
She initially told me she wanted to lose weight. In all honesty, that’s what most people want. What I noticed was that Hala was stressed and overwhelmed. Sound familiar? She wanted to be healthy and fit for her family. Hala signed up for In-Home Personal Training and completed my Transformation 365 program.
What Hala told me was that although she signed up because she wanted to lose weight, she got so much more!
- More self-awareness
- More self-confidence
She gained the support she needed to put herself first so that she could better look after her family. And during all this, we became friends.
I helped her take steps to better manage her stress, get more sleep, and I taught her how to move her body so that she would avoid injuries. The results may have been slower than what she had initially hoped but they are long-term changes.
Coach Lisa Tip: Most people believe that once they lose weight, they will be happy. I believe the opposite – be happy and then let the healthy and fit lifestyle follow. It’s about self-care through managing stress, moving your body regularly and realizing the time for yourself is extremely important.
Here’s what she had to say …
What was it like for you before you decided to get personal training?
I am going to say it as it is and I don’t care if anyone wants to judge me. I was on the line of depression, nothing was going the way I liked, neither financially nor physically. I couldn’t find a job, that is not in my hands, but I have no excuse for not looking after myself, my health. I don’t want anyone taking care of me in the coming years – I want to take care of me. I want to be strong for me and for my family.
Why did you decide to work with me?
When I met with you for more details on your fees, and workouts; and I say fees first because that was a major issue for me, your approach wasn’t aggressive. Your question, “why should I take you?” was something different from others, (gyms or personal trainers – they want the business first).
How is life easier/better/different after working with me?
You didn’t help me just physically – you helped me mentally, too, I don’t introduce you as my physical fitness coach, but as my life coach, too. Maybe I haven’t lost a lot of weight, or the weight I was wishing to lose, but my body frame is more straight. I am definitely stronger. People around me say, “There is something different about you but I just can’t put my finger on it.” And spiritually, I’m happier – that is what my close family sees. And I can add that I have learned a lot about the right way to listen to my body when it comes to my nutritional intake.
“You didn’t help me just physically – you helped me mentally, too”
What is the thing you love the most about working with me?
I can’t choose one thing, there are a number of things:
- you do not judge,
- you are sincere with your care towards my better future,
- you understand my limits.
Would you recommend someone to work with me? Why?
Definitely! I feel sad for those that I have told about you and didn’t take any action yet, they don’t know what they are missing.
I am not saying you are the cheapest, but one will get more for one’s money. It is not an ‘in you come for the exercise and out you go’. You take time to discuss more, review health and food and respond professionally to my questions. You can relate to your clients because you went through a rough time after your accident. You are patient and listen with all your senses to your client.
“It is not an ‘in you come for the exercise and out you go’. You take time to discuss more”
Hala, I am so proud of you. I can provide guidance, routines, and health advice, but you are the one who makes it happen!
